When most people think of great swimming, their minds go to California, Florida, Colorado, and Texas but Connecticut has some truly great swimmers especially in open water swimming. A Connecticut native, Dave Parcells was a triathlete and open water swimmer, competing in the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii and is the oldest person to have done a double crossing of the English Channel. He was a champion fundraiser and organizer too, being a swim director of the St. Vincent’s Medical Center’s Swim Across the Sound and running the CT Open Water Championships. He was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame after his death in 2007. Connecticut youth and masters swimmers honor him annually at the CT Open Water Championships this year to be held June 29th at Lake Quassey. Please see the Meet Results page for the registration website.
